It’s the first day of New Mexico’s legislative session, and two Tribal Remedy Framework bills have already gained important support: the Legislative Education Study Committee endorsed the Tribal Education Trust Fund and the Indian Education Act Amendment!
The Tribal Remedy Framework is a comprehensive plan for meeting the educational needs of Native students and upholding their rights. It was created collectively by tribal communities in response to the Yazzie/Martinez court ruling and has been endorsed by all Native Nations, Tribes and Pueblos in New Mexico.
Native students need an equitable and culturally relevant education that enables them to thrive in the two worlds they inhabit: their tribal communities and society at large.
Several Tribal Remedy Framework bills are being heard by lawmakers this session. Please support bills as they make their way through the legislature.
We will send out alerts when a bill is scheduled for a hearing. Public testimony can go a long way toward securing the passage of a bill!
