On January 27, at 8:30 a.m., the House Education Committee will hear HB 140, the Tribal Education Trust Fund bill, along with HB 147, which would improve Indian Education Fund distributions. Please come support these Tribal Remedy Framework bills, presented by sponsor Rep. Derrick Lente. Committee Chair Romero is a co-sponsor of the Trust Fund, along with Speaker Martínez, and Representatives Allison and Roybal Caballero. We can expect a friendly hearing and have been asked to keep public comments brief. Please be concise and respect a two-minute time limit to state your support for these bills. HB 140, the Tribal Education Trust Fund, would secure consistent and stable funding for tribal community-based education to complement school-based learning. HB 147, changing Indian Education Fund distributions, would replace short-term grant funding with monthly distributions for Tribes that can be carried over. This would create capacity for tribal education departments and schools to collaborate effectively in serving Native students. Thank you for supporting the Tribal Remedy Framework bills!, |
